From the Orient.... by Tai-House Cattery, NC

 Tai-Chi

If you are looking for an intelligent cat with a sense of humor, dauntless courage, playfullness, conversational powers, passionate interest in their surrpundings and happenings, a depth of affection which they show in many exquisite ways and extreme fidelity, then the Siamese breed is a perfect choice for you.

Their inscrutable deep blue eyes, air of aloofness, elegant bodies and their sharply contrasting bodies and points (for the original Seal Point coloring at least), make them unlike any other breed of cat.

When people talk of the breeds of the Orient, they mean the Royal Cats of Siam (Thailand) - the Siamese

These cats were held in such high esteem that no one except the King and members of the Royal Family were permitted to own them. They were originally known as Royal Points.

The King of Siam was very concerned with true breeding of these Royal Cats and only allowed a few to leave Bangkok with trusted people, the first pair being a gift to Mr. Owen Gould, then British Consul General at Bangkok, who arrived in the UK in 1884. His sister bred from these two and became the founding member of the Siamese Cat Club. Two more were imported to the UK by Mrs Vyvyan and Miss Forester Walker.

There are various legends about the Siamese cats. It is said they were originally kept in the Royal Palace as repositories for the souls of transmigrating Siamese Royalty. Once they received the dead person's soul, the cats were transferred to a Temple where it lived out it's days in total ceremonial luxury, with Monks as its servant. As Temple cats, it was rumored they had powers enabing them to intercede for the dead person's soul.

Stories abound about the original Siamese traits of crossed eyes and kinked tails (bred out of most lines now as these characteristics are frowned upon in today's show arenas - though a few of us still have some kittens born with these special, original, attributes - see the Lilac boy available below). One legend tells of a Princess of Siam who placed her wedding ring on her favorite cat's nose causing her eyes to cross as she watched the ring didn't fall; her other rings she hung on the cat's tail and tied a knot in it so as not to loose them whilst she was bathing, hence the kinked tail. Yet another legend tells of two Siamese cats, Tien and Chula, who were left to guard Buddha's golden goblet in the Temple when all the men of Siam left to defend their country. Tien, bored with life in the Temple, bred Chula and left to find a priest to relieve them. Chula, left alone, wrapped her tail around the goblet stem to prevent it being stolen whilst she was asleep and never moved her gaze from it when awake. There she remained and her kittens were born with the charateristics she herself had gained whilst on watch - the kinked tail and crossed eyes.

Tai-House Cattery

Offers traditional Siamese Kittens and, occassionally, retired cats.

All kittens are raised underfoot exclusively in the home environment with their family and extended family (Great Granny through to siblings). No cages are used. The whole family is vet supervised, all adults are fully immunized. The kittens are guaranteed healthy and free from genetic defects and are sold with first immunizations and a full health check.

Tai-House only produces two or three litters per year to ensure the good health of both the mothers and kittens, and plenty of attention. Much time is dedicated to ensuring the kittens are socialized and ready to give you a lifetime of love and fun.

Kittens and adults will be placed in loving, healthy, caring homes as PETS. A contracts will secure a kitten or an adult - this is a two way contract which guarantees the animals are healthy and free of lethal congenital defects, and requires the new owners maintain the animals as spayed or neutered Pets, complete with claws.

Kittens are priced as follows:

Seal Points $525.00      Chocolate and Blue Points $575.00      Lilac Points $650.00 (rare though 1 have had one in last 4 litters)

Retired cats are $150.00 each

Discounts are given for pairs of kittens and/or cats or combinations thereof.

If you are interested in a kitten or a retired cat, please contact us now to secure a place on the waiting list

Siamese are very demanding, affectionate cats who love a lot of human contact and interaction. Do not choose a Siamese if you are out of the house for long periods, unless you plan on having a pair or have another animal at home for company.
